Kingston upon Hull City Council promises to bring faster decision making, greater openness, higher quality services and greater public participation to local government in the city. You can get involved in local decision making by taking part in area committee meetings and ward and neighbourhood forums. There are seven area committees covering the whole city. Meeting each month in their own areas, these committees are responsible for all decisions that can be delegated from the Guildhall. Area committees are made up of the area's ward councillors and the meetings are open to the public. Smaller ward or neighbourhood forums have also been set up to enable issues to be discussed at grass roots level. These allow people to have a say on any issues affecting their neighbourhoods, not just council services. Matters raised can then be referred to the area committees for action. Each area committee is supported by a dedicated area team which is responsible for developing networks with local groups, including forums. Ward councillors have the ultimate responsibility for decision-making; however in order to reflect public opinion, they rely on information from you. As more people become involved in forums and area committees, the decisions will truly become community decisions. To receive an agenda for a forthcoming area committee meeting, telephone or write to your local area office one week before the meeting is due to take place. Where times and venues are not included, please contact the relevant area office for details. All area committee meetings and neighbourhood/ward forums now have the new council structure on their agendas.
